Bluejay 2 took some time to develop. Many designs were considered and testes (sandbox mode). Here are a couple of the failures.
The main failure with most designs was the fact they did not have enough oomph to get the craft into orbit. Below is the design that was accpeted.
The Bluejay 2 has 4 main thruster along with 3 solid rocket booster. It takes into space 4 batteries, RCS control with fuel, 2 Gravioli and 2 transmitters.
Bluejay 2 achieved orbit with a apoapsis of 80 km and a periapsis of 76 km. The craft was able to gain many Gravioli data and transmit that back to Mission Control.
To end the mission there was just enough fuel for a retrograde burn that put the periapsis at 56 km. This allowed the craft to slowly sink into the atmosphere where is burned up on reentry.
OOPS engineers learned once again that spacecraft need more electricity as one of our Gravioli scan transmission could not complete do to lack of power.
Great job overall and OOPS is one step closer to Mun.
